Series: Meet the Makers behind The Book Resort
Founder Spotlight: Victoria Flanagan of Copper Coast Natural Skincare
A firm favourite with our customers, Copper Coast Natural Skincare originated from a place of necessity. When a mother couldn't find products gentle enough for her child's sensitive skin, she didn't just keep searching—she started formulating. We sat down with Victoria Flanagan to discuss the journey from her kitchen in Dunhill to becoming a staple in our luxury gift boxes.

The Story Behind the Brand
Victoria, tell us about your roots and the business you run.
I’ve lived in Dunhill on the Copper Coast in Co. Waterford for the last 14 years. I am the owner of Copper Coast Natural Skincare; I produce a range of handmade natural skincare and home fragrance products, including soy wax candles and reed diffusers.
What was the "lightbulb moment" for your business?
As a baby, my son had very sensitive skin. At the time, there were very few truly natural products that didn't irritate him. I decided to study Natural Skincare formulation myself. After creating products for our family, I realised there was a real demand for clean, effective skincare, and Copper Coast was born.
"As long as you believe in what you are making—take that step and go for it."
The Reality of Being a "Woman in Business"
What do you love most about the founder life?
I love the autonomy. I’m responsible for every decision, and it allows me to fit a fulfilling career around my family life. Of course, the flip side is that it can be lonely. Managing everything from production to promotion without a second opinion is a constant balancing act.
What was your biggest learning curve?
Accepting that projects always take longer than you anticipate! My advice to other women starting out is to research everything thoroughly—and whatever you think you need financially to start, double it.
Life on the Copper Coast
How do you decompress after a busy week of making?
I’m lucky to live where I do. I enjoy chilling out with my family, going for long walks, or having a dip in the sea. It’s the best way to reset.
How can we best support small Irish businesses in 2026?
Look to us first! Small businesses are almost always happy to offer personalized advice that big retailers can't. Also, tell your friends—word of mouth is the greatest gift you can give a small maker.
