When I Kill You by B.A. Paris
When I Kill You by B.A. Paris is a psychological thriller built around secrets, obsession and the uncomfortable feeling that somebody may be watching you.
Nell Masters is convinced she is being followed. Silent calls, unexplained flowers and a growing sense of unease make it increasingly difficult for her to dismiss what is happening. The problem is that Nell has a past she has never fully escaped.
Why Nell is looking over her shoulder
Fourteen years earlier, Nell witnessed a young woman getting into a stranger's car. When that woman was later found murdered, Nell became obsessed with identifying the killer. Her certainty about one particular man took her down a dangerous path.
Now the past appears to be catching up with her, and the novel asks whether Nell is being hunted because of what she knows, what she did, or something she still has not understood.
Where the tension comes from
This is the most straightforward thriller of the subscription books in this group. It is fast, tense and designed to keep the reader questioning what is true.
B.A. Paris is particularly good at putting ordinary people into situations where trust becomes difficult. Here, that tension comes from Nell's own history: because she has made mistakes before, both she and the reader have reason to doubt her judgement.
If you like psychological thrillers that move quickly and continually shift suspicion, this is a very easy book to get pulled into.
For readers
The reader we would give this to
This one is for psychological-thriller readers who like fast pacing, domestic suspense, secrets and a narrator whose judgement cannot always be taken at face value.
Why we put it in the subscription
When I Kill You was one of the books we selected for The Book Resort subscription boxes in 2026.
Thriller and suspense is one of our core subscription genres, and this had the combination we want for that audience: a recognisable author, immediate tension and a premise that is easy to become invested in without being overly niche.
Our verdict
For readers who want a gripping psychological thriller rather than a slow literary mystery, yes. It is the kind of book that suits a weekend or holiday read particularly well because the plot keeps pushing you towards the next chapter.
